The essence of thru-hiking. Today during my late afternoon break I had a moment that defines thru-hiking. I had already done 20 miles & was lamenting the end of my relaxing half hour break. The drive to put in more miles, to reach my daily minimum of 25 had reached its nadir. I was tired - all I wanted to do was pull out my bivy and camp right here. No one forces you to get up & keep hiking. There isn't a real schedule or timetable. But I got up on stiff & sore legs, strapped on the heavy pack and kept heading north. This is thru-hiking...
